Eco Schools Committee 2019

Whittonstall elected their Eco-Committee this term and we are excited about our work going forward on becoming a more environmentally aware school. The committee is made up of children from our Reception class through to Year 4.
The committee have met with Mrs Drysdale, the Eco-Schools coordinator to discuss what Whittonstall already does well and how we can become an increasingly more eco-friendly and sustainable school.
In March the committee conducted an 'Environmental Review' of school and thought about which areas we would most like to focus on in school. In consultation with teachers and classmates they agreed on three areas - reducing waste, saving energy and encouraging biodiversity.
Over the coming terms the children will learn more about these issues through assemblies, cross curricular work and play in class, external agencies visits, Forest School and a dedicated 'Sustainable Schools' day in school with workshops on the themes. Watch this space for more information as the children's work towards the Eco-Schools award progresses!
