Nursery and Reception are having a very busy term. In Autumn 1 they explored the poem 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' by Edward Lear. They explored the rhyme and repeated pattern in the poem and used this as a focus for their roleplay, working together to create a beautiful pea green boat! They helped Mrs Drysdale create a story map and added actions to help them recite the poem.
This half term the children are exploring the work of some famous children's authors and comparing and contrasting their books. They have shared their own favourite books and thought about what makes them so special. They are considering the features of story and information books and what makes them different.
The children are particularly enjoying the work of Martin Waddell and they have focused on the story 'Owl Babies' to explore different areas of the curriculum, including the life cycle of an owl and how it changes over time as it grows from a chick into a magnificent adult bird.
The children will soon be getting very busy rehearsing songs, poems and surprises for their two Christmas performances for parents. Nursery will have a reindeer theme to their performance for parents (with a little help from their friends in Reception). Reception will be busy preparing for the whole school production 'Bethlehem, Bethlehem!'.
